Depa Pharmaceutical Active Materials Production Plant was established to produce antibiotics through fermentation and started its activities with the production of Tetracyclines and Oxytetracyclines in 1970. This was the beginning of pharmaceutical active substance production in Turkey.

As a result of research of many years and investments made for renovation purposes, in 1994, starting from the first step of a bioengineering based process, the total production of Potassium Clavulanate was realized. At this point it is being exported to 30 customers (finished product manufacturers) in 17 countries.

DMF of Potassium clavulanate in compliance with the requirements of USA, Canada and European health authorities for registration of finished products is complete and already submitted in some of these countries.

The plant consists of four main sections: Microbiology laboratory and fermentation unit, extraction and chemical reactions unit, auxiliary utilities and quality control and research laboratories. A biological waste water treatment unit is present.

Besides production activities, research and trials for raw material adaptation, selection of microorganisms, nutrient formulation etc. are realized in the microbiology laboratory. Pilot scale experimental and research-oriented fermentations along with pilot scale extractions and chemical reactions are carried out in related sections.
